Profile of the Organization : Working for women and children

Jaffna Social Action Center is a Sri Lankan non-governmental organization providing services throughout the Jaffna Peninsula and the Northern Province with projects currently active in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar and Mullaitivu districts. Founded in 2003, we are a special protection NGO that works with the most vulnerable members of society: former IDPs (returnees), women headed families and children in areas of poverty. We implement projects that will reduce the impact of disaster and trauma, and promote durable development. In particular we are working on the protection of children and women. JSAC primarily undertakes projects in the field of development, gender and women’s rights, human rights, justice and legal aid, reconciliation and youths. The mission of JSAC is to improve the quality of vulnerable communities with particular focus on women and children. Moreover, it endeavors to achieve the mission by working with partnership to understand and address the communities’ social and economical needs. It believes that a world where the participation of women and children leads to a positive change. The vision is to provoke a significant holistic improvement in all the aspects of people’s life with an equal partnership with communities in the development process. JSAC contains a highly facilitated group with a supportive internal system and embedded cultural participation. Two of its main projects are shelter and livelihood assistance for internally displaced persons and safe house for women and children.
